Amy Earhart

Associate Professor
Department of English
College of Liberal Arts

Amy Earhart works with digital humanities, African American and African Diaspora literature and 19th century American literature and culture.

Earhart’s monograph “Can a Computer Be Racist?: Digital Humanities and the Exploration of Race in African-American Literature” and accompanying digital project revels how seemingly naturalized technological infrastructures impact meaning in African-American authored literary texts. Her project outlines the limitations of technology in the representation and analysis of race and, through a series of target case studies, uses technology tools to investigate specific questions of race and representation in literature. During her fellowship, she plans to draft two chapters of the monograph; create two fully open access datasets; upload data to an institutional repository; develop visualizations of the datasets; present at two international conferences and publish a journal article.
