Research Titles and Staffing
The Division of Research administers research position titles and compensation procedures.
New Hires
On June 16, 2021 the previous hiring authorization process was revised. Positions that are paid 100% on sponsored research funds are no longer excluded from the hiring authorization process.
All previously submitted hiring authorization requests (approved or unapproved) must be re-submitted for approval using the updated Hiring Authorization Request Form unless:
- The Department has extended a written offer of employment to their candidate on or before 6/16/21, or
- The Department is in the process of onboarding the new employee.
For detailed instructions, please refer to the HROE website.

Instructions
Processes related to research personnel that will be initiated, routed and completed in Workday include: create position, hire, change job, add additional job, request one-time payment, and request compensation change. Most of these requests require approval from department heads and deans before the vice president for research approves them. Please send documentation of department- and college-level approvals via email to ResearchStaffing@tamu.edu. Select the Sample Memorandums link below to find resources you may use for obtaining approvals.
Departments are able to post faculty-equivalent research positions through the Workday site or by directly working with the Division of Research to post a position on the Texas Workforce Commission’s website.
