Membership in National Postdoctoral Association (NPA)

The National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) is a member-driven, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides a unique, national voice for postdoctoral scholars. Since 2003, this organization has taken on an ambitious agenda aimed at enhancing the quality of the postdoctoral experience in the United States. They have assumed a leadership role in addressing the many issues confronting the postdoctoral community that are national in scope and require action beyond the local level. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the NPA meets its agenda through advocacy, resource development, and community-building

Texas A&M is now a sustaining member of the National Postdoctoral Association (NPA). This allows all graduate students, postdocs, faculty, and staff at Texas A&M free affiliate memberships. Affiliate members have access to members-only NPA web content, NPA member groups for networking with fellow NPA members, reduced registration fees to the NPA annual meeting, eligibility for the NPA travel award program, and national representation on postdoctoral issues. The members-only web content includes, for example, career-planning resources, mentoring plans, and a responsible conduct of research toolkit. Of course, you are also welcome to become an individual member for a wider range of benefits.

Ombuds Officer for Postdoctoral Scholars

The Ombuds Officer for postdoctoral scholars serves as an informal, independent, neutral, and confidential resource to help postdocs identify options for addressing concerns. The Ombuds Officer can help clarify institutional policies, facilitate conversations with faculty and administrators, guide postdocs through informal grievance processes, and connect postdocs with others who can help.  The Ombuds Officer considers all sides of an issue and promotes fair and impartial processes and outcomes for all parties involved.

The Ombuds Officer for postdoctoral scholars is guided and informed by the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of the International Ombudsman Association
