Searle Scholars Program
PI Eligibility: Faculty should have begun their first appointment as an independent investigator at the assistant professor level on or after July 1, 2011. The appointment must be a tenure-track position (or its nearest equivalent).
Applicants for year 2013 awards will be expected to be pursuing independent research careers in biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, pharmacology, and related areas in chemistry, medicine, and the biological sciences.

Texas A&M University has been invited to submit two applications.
The Searle Scholars Program makes grants to selected academic institutions to support the independent research of outstanding young scientists who have recently been appointed as assistant professors on a tenure-track appointment. The current grant level is $300,000 for a three-year period. Normally, the program makes 15 new grants each year.
The Searle Scholars Program does not ordinarily support purely clinical research, but has supported research programs that include both clinical and basic components.
June 15, 2012, 5:00 pm: Deadline for an email of intent, with title of internal proposal and a 1-3 sentence description of the project.

June 21, 2012, 5:00 pm: Deadline to submit an internal proposal. All proposals submitted for the Limited Submissions must be submitted electronically using the on-line application system, which is available at: https://eproposal.tamu.edu.
Be prepared to upload your internal proposal, the sections will include a 1-3 page Research Plan Summary, Bio-sketch, and a budget.

June 28, 2012: The Internal Selection Committee will notify PIs of the result of the internal competition.
In order to ensure that all application materials are complete and to leave ample time for follow up, we encourage submissions well in advance of the deadline.
Sept. 28, 2012: Deadline for the Full proposal, by 5:00 pm local time of applicant organization.
