Limited Submission Program (LSP): This funding opportunity and the LSP is open to all Texas A&M University faculty and principal investigators (PIs) who meet the eligibility requirements. The University and The Texas A&M University System agencies jointly administer this process to select the proposal(s) that will be submitted to the sponsor in response to this solicitation.

PI Eligibility: Applicants for awards which will be activated on July 1, 2014 will be expected to be pursuing independent research careers in biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, pharmacology, and related areas in chemistry, medicine, and the biological sciences.  Candidates should have begun their appointment as an independent investigator at the assistant professor level on or after July 1, 2012. The appointment must be their first tenure-track position (or its nearest equivalent) at an invited institution.

The proposal will be prepared and submitted by Sponsored Research Services (SRS).

Proposal Limit: Two (2)

Summary: The Searle Scholars Program supports research of outstanding individuals who have recently begun their appointment at the assistant professor level, and whose appointment is their first tenure-track position at a participating academic or research institution. Today, 155 institutions are invited to participate in the program.

Each year 15 new individuals are named Searle Scholars. Awards are currently set at $100,000 per year for three years. Since its inception, 497 scholars have been named and over $102 million has been awarded.

 Dates:

July 10, 2013: Deadline for an email of intent including the title of the internal proposal and a one to three sentence description of the project.

July 17, 2013: Deadline to submit an internal proposal.

All proposals for the LSP must be submitted electronically using the e-proposal on-line application system.

Be prepared to upload your internal proposal. The sections will include a one to three page research plan summary and two-page bio-sketch.

The e-proposal site is password protected. Texas A&M principal investigators may use their NetID and password to access the system. If you do not have a NetID, from the e-proposal site, click on “Signup,” fill in the pertinent information and an account will be created for you.

August 8, 2013: Target date for the notifications to PIs of the result of the internal competition.

September 27, 2013: Sponsor deadline for the full application.
